WHY uTurn?

Internationally:

Our international projects are inspired by social issues or news stories that we care deeply about. Many of our international projects are aimed at helping local communities or small villages, groups that are often left to the side. We focus on creating projects that are not only beneficial long term but can easily be continued by the local residents. We encourage these communities to actively be involved in all areas of the project, whether it is through decision making, planning, or construction, to ensure there is a unanimous decision in all choices being made. Having the community involvement allows us to make sure that the needs and wants of the group are being met, and allows for a closer relationship between both parties.

Specific examples of our development initiatives and work in partnership can be found in the international partnerships section of this website.

Locally:

With the help of various local organizations, we create programs and events that shine light on issues that affect new Canadians. Many new comers are first taken aback by the cultural differences between Canada and home, and we try to educate them about these differences as well as provided resources that they can turn to.

Our local projects focus on issues such as mental health, racism, and cultural differences between children and their parents. We want to provide new Canadians with the chance to understand where Canada has been, and where it aims to be.
